DanAnnas First Week in Straya!

Tomorrow hits the one week mark here on the Sunshine Coast. The time really has run so fast! We left Sweden with temperatures pending between 0°C - 10°C, and came into Australia on their hottest day of the year with up to 37°C! (Technically we came to Singapore first but that was only 20°C and rainy so it doesn't count..) During the week it's been much nicer temperatures and a beautiful weather. We're staying at Dan's parents house for the next five weeks or so (Thanks Martin and Julie!), with an occasional sleepover/camping trip.
This week we drove around a lot and we've been to so many new places around Sunshine Coast for me that it feels like I can hardly remember it all. But I'll try to do a small recap!

We tried to go to a beach each day for a morning swim. We've seen to many to count, but the ones we swam at are Kings Beach, Bulcock Beach, Currimundi Lake, The Spit and Golden Beach. The water's here not really warm but once your in it's very nice and refreshing from the hot sun. So far all the beaches have been of fine sand with the occasional shells laying around. I tried to go out in some rougher water the other day together with Dan and his friend, but it was too much and i stayed behind next to the mums and the toddlers. I still had fun running in and out of the white wash though!

Kings Beach

Today we actually went to quite a cool place to swim at. We went to Currimundi lake, which is a lake/ river that leads right out to the ocean. And when the tide is not too high, there's sand dunes sticking up making it nice and shallow. And just on the other side of the beach, you can swim and surf in the ocean.

Currimundi Lake, to the right is the mouth to the ocean.

So we have our own van for the time we're staying here. There's only two seats and in the back we put in our mattress and made a bed. We tried it out the first time going out to Ilkley to spend the night with some old friends to Dan. I don't have any pictures of the house it self, but i got some of the surroundings. It was very beautiful with tall skinny trees and bushes around making the property very private. The trees also protected us a bit from the sun. There was actually a king parrot in the tree tops above us!

Last night we went to a Surf Club for a birthday dinner with a bunch of other people. Apart from the bar and restaurant, they have a whole room set up for pokies (slot machines) which apparently is very common to have. They also had a raffle on this night where you could win different sets of meat platters for BBQs. Dan reckoned he's never won before, but we actually won two of them! So that's our BBQ for tonight.

We have also gone to a market, swum in the pool and met loads of people. We've eaten a lot of typical Australian foods like BBQs, sausage rolls, meat pies, fish and chips, and my personal new favorite; Crumpets! (If you're like me and never heard of them before, you have to google it and find out how you can get some, they're some serious business!)
