Who would have thought it would be this hard to keep updating a blog on a regular basis while traveling haha! I expected to would have all the time in the world for this project, but I clearly forgot just how hard backpacking can be ๐ I am truly bowing down to all people who can travel and work at the same time, it takes a lot of discipline not to choose to just go and relax instead. But I am pleased to say that we are very much enjoying ourselves on this trip! It is 12:47 and our breakfast was just cleared off the table here at Los Amigos on Flores Island, Guatemala. Its a slow start to the day as we are waiting for a money transfer between my Swedish account to Dans' Australian. The ATMs here have a problem with my card, and it seems like a lot of people has the same problem. So until we have figured that out, we're stranded here on this picturesque little Guatemalan island.

With very little cash on us (the hostel is kind enough to let us eat and sleep on tab), we haven't splurged out on activities here. We considered going to Tikal, but we've seen a few Mayan ruins by now, so we're actually going to skip it (blasphemy!). We'd much rather spend money on new experiences like hiking in the jungle, diving, or climb a volcano. We actually were planning on going to Volcano de Fuego in the near future, but after the eruption yesterday we'll stay away for a while. Such a horrible experience it must have been for the people in the affected villages..
What we have done though, is visiting Jorge's Rope Swing! At this family owned little retreat on the other side of the lake with a rope swing, a 5-6 meter tall diving board, hammocks, and a menu of some food and beverages, you can easily spend 3-4 hours or even the whole day. If you find the menu pricey, there's no problem bringing your own drinks and snacks from the island (i think ๐). A boat there and back is 20Q, and the entrance is 10Q. So it should be only 30Q each (or 3.5 euros)!
We've been twice already and though it's been raining constantly both times, we've really enjoyed it. The water is so warm! I really don't like heights, but still managed to do a couple cheeky ones from the stairs rather than from the platform ;)

Our hostel, Los Amigos, is probably the most popular hostel on the island. We thought at first that it would be too pricey, but the loft we're staying in is only 70Q a night each. And it is definitely an experience in itself so stay here. The owners have done an amazing job at this place by serving amazing food, keeping it clean, offer deals on beers and cocktails, games, and decorated literally every inch of this place. There's not a single corner here where you wouldn't stop and just take in all the art and details. It feels like living in a tree house in the jungle! It is truly Flores Hidden Garden. It might not be the best backpacker vibe, since it's a little expensive but well worth a visit. If you decide not to stay here, make sure you come by for a dinner and some drinks, as their food is delicious!

Now we will go back to the waiting game, not the smartest idea to do a international transfer over a weekend... Wish us good luck!
