In Mexico!

On the 20th of march, we managed to leave Australia! Exactly one month delayed, we left with the same flight as we'd taken if I wouldn't have gotten into hospital. On the Saturday before left, we got a nice farewell from all of Dan's friends and family. But mainly we were celebrating his coming 30th birthday! It was really cool of everyone to chip in with so much food, desserts and awesome company.

When we were leaving Australia it went a little pear shaped as we got stopped in Sydney for not having proof of an onward journey out of Mexico later on. We had a few stressful moments at the check-in, but then the girl at the service desk told us that we could just move our flight a day forward for $75 each. We took the offer and spent a nice, but a bit bittersweet, dinner in Sydney Harbour that night.
When we got to the airport the next day, we had fixed the previous problem by getting a random bus ticket online from Mexico to Guatemala, and they let us board the plane. We were so happy the moment we finally stepped out of the airport in Hawaii. Now it was really just the two of us, and a new part of the world to explore. It's a cool feeling 👍

At least I got to go to Sydney for the first time!

A quick update of where we are/been up to!
At the moment we've been on the road for just under a month, and so far we've been to Honolulu, Cancùn, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Tulum. We've been to cenotes, eaten awesome Mexican food, been surfing, diving and snorkeling. It felt like we moved around a lot more than necessarily to begin with, so now we've found a nice hostel in Tulum where we can explore the area, eat good food, go to the beach and just take it easy. We've been here for almost 2 weeks, but are planning on going to Valladolid soon. Maybe Monday :)

West side of Cozumel island. We snorkeled here for a bit, and the water was so nice and warm. And blue!

Just FYI for you who's not really sure what a cenote is! In short they are the result of an underground cave system with groundwater, that has collapsed and been exposed. Some of them looks just like a lake or pond, but most of them are really cool with caves, caverns and mangroves. The water is usually very clear and cool. The one we went to yesterday, Nicte-Ha, had a lot of fish and a couple turtles living there. Cenotes are such an refreshing way to get away from the heat for a bit!

Jardin of Eden cenote

Mexico is starting to grow on us. We're learning the do's and dont's, taking in new cultures, food and music. It's hot here, but not so humid at the moment 👍 Its only been 3 months since we left Sweden, and so far we've lost our luggage, gotten appendicitis, been denied a flight, and gotten a bag stolen. It feels like we've had a little run of bad luck lately, but the other day we found 400 pesos in a cenote, so maybe our luck has turned?

Adios!
